Volunteers Wanted for Spartan Singles

Several volunteers are needed to help out on the Race Committee Boat or the Safety Boat for the Spartan Singles Laser Regatta on September 17th and 18th. If you can help out on one or both of these days, please contact Vice Commodore Pat Dolan by email at patrick@dolan.name or by phone at 517-214-6568. Spartan Singles is jointly sponsored by the MSU Sailing Club and the Lansing Sailing Club. We encourage all LSC Laser sailors to participate by sailing in the Regatta.

Junior Sailors Win At Lightning Helm

Sunday's Lightning fleet racing was delayed waiting for wind. When it began to fill in, the sailors went on the water and got in two races with light and variable wind conditions.

The exciting news however was that two Junior sailors were at the helm - and each of them won a race.

With winds creating a downwind start condition for the first race, Chris Miller got "Wind Dancer" off fast by coming in on starboard from outside the pin end of the line and gybing at the mark. She kept extending her lead all the way around the course - but got a little scare as boats behind were coming in to the finish on a gust of wind. Chris held on to win by a good margin as the fickle wind changed direction by 180 degrees to propel her across the line as boats behind were stopped between wind systems. Gil Chesbro and Pat Dolan crewed for Chris. Chris finished second in the other race Sunday.

Cody Eggenberger wins Race Two

Race two found Cody Eggenberger driving "Moody's Booty" in good position at the boat end of the line with separation from the remainder of the fleet who decided to start at the pin. With Jennifer McKervey and Mike Moody crewing, Cody found a wind stream that no other boat got - and kept his boat moving. He won the second race going away. Cody had a second place finish in the first race.

Neil Harrison took third place in the first race with Alanna Harvey and John Quensen crewing. Susanna Tellschow had Jamie Rasmussen and Stephen Wagner aboard and sailed to a third place finish in the second race.

Complete results and current standings can be found by clicking on the Laser emblem on the racing page of the LSC web site at www.lansingsailing.org.

Picnic and Pirate Prize

"Banana Boat" Fletcher's Pirate Crew

It was a beautiful day to have a picnic and spend time on Lake Lansing yesterday. Alanna Harvey took charge of organizing the picnickers, Jim Fletcher got the cooking going, and Mike Moody turned everyone into Pirates for a little on the water fun.

Avast. Three pirate maps were passed out to crews aboard three pirate ships and everyone set sail to find the treasure. One map led a crew to the clue "The Hold of a Boat". Another pirate ship found the clue "Lightning Bolt". A third crew's endeavor led them to the clue "Come Dance With Me".

When the pirates got together, they figured out to look under the cover of "Wind Dancer" - and indeed they found the treasure.
